The bourbon itself is a blend of 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. To me it has this great spicy mint citrus note that I love, probably due to the higher proof. The regulation requires 51%, but how much rye used beyond that is often a mystery. The Bulleit bourbon was a disappoint for me when I tried that, in fact it was so underwhelming that I took it to a party and used it in cocktails. A very good rye if not as complex as I would personally like. This boldness and overall quality helps put Bulleit in the higher echelon of mixing bourbons. If you like them a bit shallow and uncomplicated this one is for you.
