Stephen Mather Plaque. When Mather died, memorial plaques were placed in selected national park sites. Stephen Mather’s 65th birthday would have been July 4, 1932, so on and around that date a dozen national parks and monuments held dedication ceremonies for their plaque. Found with the kind help and persistence of these two gentlemen Chip Barker and Erik Johnson, as well as Erik's predecessor the retired park historian, who after 50 years knows everything, including where this plaque used to be (which is where it still is) A few are located at places not in the national parks. One of those sites is in Berkeley, at the Stephen T. Mather Memorial Grove in UC’s Botanical Garden.
