Biotechnology History - A Timeline DURING THE PRE-18TH CENTURY Most of the inventions and developments in these periods are termed as “discoveries” or “developments”. Such inventions were based on common observations about nature, which could be put to test for the betterment of human life at that point in time (Berkeley 2012). A fledgling “biotech” industry began to coalesce in the mid- to late 1970s.
The first molecular and cellular tools of modern biotechnology emerged in the 1960s and ’70s. Modern biotechnology stands in contrast to older forms of “biotechnology,” which emerged thousands of years ago, when humans began to domesticate plants and animals. Its development was basically based on observations, and applications of these observations to practical scenarios. The development of biotechnology products such as therapeutic proteins or vaccines in pre-filled syringes (PFS) has attracted considerable interest from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the past 5 to 7 years. Biotechnology and its Various Stages of Development There are various stages in the development of biotechnology to meet the various needs of humans.
It is a set of enabling techniques for bringing about specific human-made changes in DNA, or genetic material, in plants, animals and microbial systems, leading to useful products and technologies.
