Aristotle On Friendship Philosophical Ethics December 6, 1995 Friendship is undoubtedly one of the most important elements in the books of Aristotle's ethical principles.
Aristotle on Friendship Friendship is a bond in which many individuals make every effort to achieve, although the meaning of it is not known to them. Therefore a good relationship is formed when the parties involved are equally virtuous and thus forming a perfect friendship. Aristotle relates this kind of friendship to that of a commercial transaction between two parties or a relation of two old men who provide each other with mutual support in their twilight years. True friends take time to know each other. The giving virtue is the greatest in a friendship and friends who are committed in giving each other their worth form a long lasting friendship. Individuals surround themselves with other humans, their friends, in order to achieve a greater happiness. Aristotle says that friendship involves giving and receiving but it is more of giving than receiving. Often times they must partake of hardships together so that they might truly appreciate the other’s companionship.
